Apparently we're sticking with the mystery theme we started earlier this year. Today's movie review is of Murder Mystery 2! Now, full disclosure, I watched the sequel, hoping to provide an unhelpful review because I hadn't seen the first film. But then a couple nights later, I saw the first film, so I'm kind of watching things out of order. But I promise this review will be only about the second movie and it will still be very unhelpful.
So here we go. It's time to dive into the second murder mystery movie called Murder Mystery 2 which expands upon the first murder mystery movie called Murder Mystery and it's going to be a good time.
Briefly, and Without Spoilers
After successfully solving one of the highest profile cases in Europe, Nick (Adam Sandler) and Audrey Spitz (Jennifer Aniston) open their own private investigator agency. Unfortunately, their hot streak seems to be cooling off. After several failed cases leave them on the brink of bankruptcy, they accept an invitation to the destination wedding of a friend, the Maharajah Vik (Adeel Akhtar). Shit quickly hits the fan and Nick and Audrey find themselves caught up in yet another high-profile mystery.
Written by James Vanderbilt and directed by Jeremy Garelick, Murder Mystery 2 takes audiences back into the high-action world that calls on the Spitz team's expertise--or rather, lack thereof.

Does Murder Mystery Deliver a Murder Mystery? (Spoilers Ahead!!)
As always, we've got to look at the murder mystery first and decide if it was a good one. If the mystery itself sucked, then sometimes nothing else matters.
And sure, it was fine. Frankly, I thought Mark Strong's character was always suspicious and I wasn't particularly surprised when he appeared, still alive. Did I guess the accomplice? Not really, but honestly, I wasn't surprised by that, either.
It was fine, overall. I wasn't blown away by the reveal, but not every murder mystery has to reinvent the wheel. Although I don't remember them actually talking about the spite between the sister (Kuhoo Verma) and Vik. Maybe I wasn't paying attention.
So I wasn't particularly surprised by the reveal, but I also wasn't mad at it.
And Everything Else?
Also very okay. The jokes were okay, the stakes were a little low, but okay, the acting and the story was okay. All very okay. Which is not a bad thing.
I did like the scene when all the suspects show up at their room to tell them who they think did it. That was amusing. I also liked...I also liked...Idk, it was fine.
There really isn't much to say. It was fine, and if you like this kind of movie, you'll probably like it. It kills an hour and a half. Adam Sandler doesn't go too hard and Sandler and Aniston have good chemistry. That didn't change from the last movie.
I would say the one thing it lost from the last movie was the growth. In the original, they seemed to become a stronger duo over the course of the movie and touched on some real issues that couples of a certain age sometimes have to think about. This one, there was less conflict between them which I guess is fine, although it was one of the charms of the original.

A Very Okay Murder Mystery
It was fine. I didn't hate it and I thought it was fine. If you like okay murder mysteries, then Murder Mystery 2 might be your cup of tea. I'm probably not going to watch either movie ever again, but I don't feel like I've lost hours of my life I'll never get back again.
